Collagen is most commonly found in the skin, bones and connective tissue within the body, providing structural support, strength and a degree of skin elasticity (in combination with elastin).
In the middle layer of the skin – the dermis – collagen helps form a fibrous network, upon which new cells can grow. It plays an important role in the replacement and restoration of dead skin cells.
Our skin collagen production naturally declines as we age. It reduces the structural integrity of the skin and can lead to dry and saggy skin, to the formation of lines and wrinkles and the weakening of skin elasticity and firmness.
